Saving & Spending

christmas-shopping‘Tis the season where our banks accounts take a huge dip. In one month it is Christmas which means shopping for friends and family, on top of our already current expenses. Some people may be thinking “oh great, now not only do I have to pay rent, tuition, books, I also have to worry about the holiday”. But no fear, this is where budgeting and being smart with your money will come in handy.

relaxFirst I’d like to say congratulations to everyone reading this, you survived all your midterms whether it have only been one round or two. And you know what that means? Not only is the semester almost over, but that means finals are beginning in about 3 weeks. I don’t blame you if that last sentence terrifies you, because I would definitely agree with you.

Staying on Top

studdyBecause of the comments I had gotten on my last post I decided to follow it up with some studying tips, or well the best way I find to study and prepare for exams. Even if you don’t have exams coming up, some of the tips will be useful for keeping up on your readings, therefore, when the exams do come you won’t have a pile left to do.

Stress? What Stress?

stressDays are getting shorter, nights are getting colder, leaves are falling to the ground….not only is fall among us but it is also midterm season as well. The majority of you will have your midterms either just beginning or beginning in the upcoming week, fortunately for me I’ve already written 4 out of my 5, so I may be able to provide some useful advice for managing midterms, work, volunteering, and having a bit of a social life.

Volunteering = Gaining Experience

I know there have been previous posts on finding research positions but I wanted to write another since it is the beginning of the semester and now is the best time to start looking for one if you’re interested. Most labs are always looking for volunteers, and if you’ve never had any past research experience this is the best way to gain some.

Textbook Buying 101

savemoneyThe beginning of the semester can always be a bit hectic. With new classes beginning and having to buy all the necessary materials, now is the time when money is always on the mind. Most classes have at least one required textbook or coursepack, if not more. If you do not have a job currently, or even if you do, trying to come up with money to pay for everything may be an issue. One thing I wish I would’ve known as a freshman student was that there are cheaper options for buying textbooks.
