Day 1 Blog: The Road to India

As we wait in London’s Heathrow airport for our transfer to Delhi, India, we discussed our expectations for our travels. We talked about the cultural and religious knowledge we had about the country; namely about the prominence of Hinduism and its implications for society (for instance, cows have free range just about everywhere). Though our knowledge of India is limited, we do come armed with some practical information from a Concordia professor: the head is sacred and feet are considered to be the dirtiest part of your body, never touch someone with your feet, or your left hand. We are set to arrive in Delhi after our overnight flight in about 10 hours time. And although we cannot seem to agree on all of the sights, sounds, and even smells of the country that awaits us on the other side of this flight, we can agree that it will be a cultural shock for us. So until the plane touches down in Delhi, we will try to beat the jet lag that faces us by getting some sleep, with visions of India dancing in our heads.
