Upcoming changes for McGill email redirects

This message is sent to you by McGill IT Services because you have opted to redirect your McGill email address (@mcgill.ca/@mail.mcgill.ca) to an alternate address (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, McGill departmental address, etc.).

What is Happening and When will it Happen?

As of next Wednesday, July 5, 2017, McGill IT Services will change the process for managing your email redirects. Instead of using McGill’s Reggie site to specify a redirect from your McGill email address, we are going to create a new mailbox for you on Office 365’s Exchange Online, which you will be able to manage yourself. Once up and running, your new mailbox will be set up with the Forward option activated so that any mail delivered will be forwarded to your alternate email address. A copy of those messages will also reside on the Office 365 mailbox for validation purposes.

Note that delivery of forwarded email is not always reliable; given the increasingly strict spam filtering on most email services, forwarded messages may be blocked from arriving at the desired destination. In order to reduce the risk of missing important emails from McGill, we recommend you switch from forwarding to another method of maintaining your McGill and external mail accounts.

We will send you another notification once your new mailbox is available on Office 365, at which time we will provide instructions on changing the forwarding option to an alternative. Please stay tuned for more information by mid-June.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact IT Services at the address below, or fill out a web form (http://www.mcgill.ca/it/forms/issues-email-o365) if you are having any difficulties with your email.

Thank you for your attention.
