Your thoughts on governance and financing of universities
As you know, the Government of Quebec will hold a summit on higher education in late February. In advance of this summit the government is in the process of holding four thematic meetings on the summit’s key themes:
- quality in higher education,
- accessibility and participation in higher education,
- governance and financing of universities,
- and the contribution of institutions and research to Quebec society.
Principal Heather Munroe-Blum participated at the first thematic meeting on quality in higher education at the end of November, 2012.
She has been invited to participate at the upcoming third meeting on governance and financing of universities. This meeting will take place Thursday evening (January 17) and Friday (January 18) at the Université de Sherbrooke.
You can watch the webcast at http://www.mesrst.gouv.qc.ca/sommet-sur-lenseignement-superieur/webdiffusion/ on Thursday evening and during the course of the day on Friday. (Exact times for the webcast are not yet posted.)
We’ve also just launched a new website outlining our position on various topics related to the summit, including links to other positions held by other organizations. See http://www.mcgill.ca/summit2013/ . I invite you to explore the site and form your own opinion on the urgent issues facing universities in Quebec.
The Government has also created a Facebook page for the Summit where you can post your opinions: https://www.facebook.com/sommet.gouv.qc.ca. For more on the higher education summit and associated thematic meetings, see the Government’s website.
McGill’s senior leadership team is eager to hear your thoughts and ideas on governance and financing of universities, as well as the other summit themes.
