Learning my Limits

Entering the Fall 2015 semester, I was part of two planning committees, had two part-time on campus jobs, and was taking a full course load with five classes. I had everything planned out! My weekdays were perfectly structured. Most of my classes were scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which gave me ample time to work on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It all seemed to fit perfectly! I mean, yes, I was out of the house everyday by 9am and returned around 8pm; and I barely had time to eat, sleep or hang out with my friends, but hey! I was gaining so much work experience and taking advantage of all the opportunities I was being offered at McGill! Yes, I knew it was going to be tough, but it will all work out in the end and be worth it, right?!


Staying on Top

studdyBecause of the comments I had gotten on my last post I decided to follow it up with some studying tips, or well the best way I find to study and prepare for exams. Even if you don’t have exams coming up, some of the tips will be useful for keeping up on your readings, therefore, when the exams do come you won’t have a pile left to do.


All in Good Time



Midterm season is upon us and many students are already drowning in the sea of endless papers, exams, projects and reports! Rather than tackle the overwhelming pile of responsibilities taunting us, many choose to take the irrational approach (according to Sigmund Freud’s Psychoanalytic theory), and find ways to distract ourselves from our priorities. I would say that procrastination is a student’s #1 adversary in this battlefield called University!


How to Make the Most of Reading Week



No tropical vacation planned? Not to worry, there is still plenty to be done and distractions are not an option. We all know the usual routine, once we arrive home from that last class at the start of spring break, we take a deep breath in and before we know it, it’s over! Try to take precaution and use everyday carefully to ensure that it doesn’t seem like it’s over before it has even started. Here are a few tips to make the most of your spring break, take a look:

Are we doomed to succumb to all-nighters and caffeine binges until the long-awaited day of graduation? Are we obliged to be fueled by nothing more than blind panic, black coffee and energy drinks? I certainly hope not…I mean, after all, we are McGillians and while we knowingly signed up for this fate upon beginning school, there has to be an alternative to reclaim our social lives!


All Nighters

D1331CoffeePosterspLast week, for the first time in my life I pulled an all nighter. It was somewhat intentional however. I’ve always been used to doing things on time and being organized, so I thought I should see what its like and what works better. I figured that doing things on time is ultimately better, but all nighters do have some advantages too.


To Cram or Not to Cram?

Without the slightest bit of hesitation, they initiate their ritual late-night cram-sessions and caffeine binges in order to catch up on their schoolwork. This is the time when students tend to revisit or even relearn concepts they should have mastered by now. I am all too familiar with this process; after all, I am a teacher…and yes, we can tell.


Stop Procrastinating and Get Stuff Done… or Else

You get home and plan on working on that important project that you are NOT looking forward to for whatever reason. So you decide to work on something else for a while. While doing that, you check you’re mails, and find a lot of interesting links to read online. Before you now it, it’s very late and you want to sleep. So you plan to work on it tomorrow.


Just Do It!

confidenceMidterms. It has been the bane of existence for many students this past month, myself included. Between grocery shopping and doing laundry, studying for midterms has become another regular chore on the to do list. Thankfully midterm season is almost over. The waves of stress will hopefully subside for a while before finals roll along. As of this moment, many of my own classes have not released their midterm results. That uncertainty (more…)

Procrastination makes easy things hard, hard things harder.


Do you really want to be successful? There’s only one thing keeping you behind. Procrastination. We’ve all heard it before, hundreds of times but it really is one of the most important things. One thing I learnt from British students at school in Dubai was that many of them started studying from 2 – 3 months before for their GCSE’s. And this was in grade 9 here! Seeing (more…)
