One Student’s view of our LinkedIn Event

Hillary Morden, a student in McGill’s Public Relations and Communications Management program, attended our February event about leveraging LinkedIn. When asked before about the event why she was attending, Hillary mentioned she was looking forward to learning more about LinkedIn and how to network more efficiently. So we caught up with her after the event and asked what she came away with.

What did you learn about LinkedIn?

Having Shelly show us all the little tricks about how to improve your profile (i.e. changing your profile URL, using a professional photograph, managing your connections) allowed me to take a step back and look at my own profile as an employer.

What is the first thing you did based on Shelly’s suggestions?

The first thing I did was think about what my summary should say. I’m still working on finding a great “elevator pitch”! I also replaced my picture by something a little more formal, current, and with a clean crisp background

Do you now feel more confident about LinkedIn profile?

After really taking Shelly’s suggestions to heart, I’ve already received a message from a company! It isn’t the direction I want to take my career, but it just shows that these little efforts really are noticed by employers.
