Job Opportunity: PR/Media Specialist

The company is seeking a driven PR / Media professional to help us maximize our media presence. To support our rapid growth, we’re looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented and creative professional to orchestrate the company’s market influence through increased media exposure. The Media Relations Specialist will create, manage, and implement media strategies, and develop and maintain strong media relationships as a means of positioning stories that support our brand and position us an industry thought leader. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Marketing and will work closely with sales, product development and marketing teams, as well as external parties to ensure we deliver compelling content to the media. Occasional travel may be required.


  • Work with internal and external resources to discover and tell the company’s most interesting stories; including interviewing stakeholders, arranging photography and videography shoots
  • Research and write highly effective press releases
  • Ensure translation of press releases and other media material to appropriate languages
  • Pitch media content, including articles and news stories to publications (trade and others)
  • Distribute press releases and other communications through email, wire services, website and social media channels
  • Develop media relationships with key trade publications
  • Be aware of editorial calendars, identify editorial opportunities and develop appropriate content
  • Prepare other material for the media, such as press kits, talking points and FAQs
  • Research media contacts including trade publications and maintain an accurate media contact list
  • Identify, develop and execute communication strategies for key media contacts
  • Partner with agency team to develop and implement public relations programs and activities
  • Issue swift and accurate responses to media inquiries and exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities
  • Proofread and edit all communications
  • Determine budgets and manage expenses related to events and media relations activities
  • Report on coverage and analyze performance
  •  Evaluate advertising and promotion programs to determine whether they are compatible with their organization’s public relations efforts
  • Participate in the development of messaging and communications conventions.


  • 2+ years experience in PR /media relations
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, journalism, marketing, communications, PR or related field
  • Full command of PR concepts, as well as previous experience in the strategy and execution of PR activities
  •  Ability to manage outside resources, including an agency team
  • Experience working with business and technology trade press
  • Passion for media relations, technical research, thought leadership initiatives and reactive communications
  •  Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and ability to work well within a cross-functional team environment
  • Ability to grasp complex and technical content, and break it down for different audiences
  • Exhibit sound and accurate judgment; support and explain reasoning for decisions; include  appropriate people in decision-making process; make timely decisions
  • Planning/Organizing – Prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; plan for additional resources; organize and schedule tasks and follow through
  • Experience in AP Style, database and newswires, and Photoshop an advantage
