Montreal Ottoman Turkish Studies (MOTS) is an annual workshop series aimed at bringing together scholars working on the diverse peoples, cultures and environments of Modern Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. We understand these political entities as a reference point for the entangled histories of a region that has always been connected to the rest of the world through trade, diplomacy, intellectual exchange, technological transfer, mobility and migration. We are open to all disciplines and periods. The workshop provides a forum for discussing pre-circulated papers and providing feedback to authors. While prioritizing graduate student work, the workshop is open to scholars at any stage of their careers.

If you are interested in joining our mailing list and/or presenting your work at MOTS, please contact mots@mcgill.ca

Conveners: Dr. Aslıhan Gürbüzel, Dr. İpek Türeli, Dr. Veysel Şimşek, Dr. Anastassios Anastassiadis
